As a child and teenager, I grew up on irrigation dairy farm at Tatura in the Goulburn Valley in Northern Victoria.
I loved being outside and shared my father’s passion for fishing and the water, Whether it was chasing redfish in the local irrigation channels to spending hours sitting on the banks of the Goulburn chasing Murray cod or Golden perch, fishing and being near the water would always be a big part of my life.
Holidays were spent up the NSW coast; again fishing was the attraction, and my love for the ocean and its inhabitant’s emerged and I still love fishing, diving and exploring coastal reefs and regions.
Years later, I now have a Diploma of Natural resource specialising in Aquatic science
I am also employed part-time at the East Gippsland TAFE and part of my role is teaching Aquaculture at SEAMEC at Bullock Island in Lakes Entrance.
My position as the new Fishcare Facilitator for East Gippsland is gratifying.
To have the opportunity to facilitate and be part of a team, that includes a dedicated group of volunteers that is committed to educating the community on responsible fishing practices and techniques as well as taking responsibility for our surrounding aquatic systems is rewarding and challenging at the same time.
Educating communities on sustainable fishing practices has always been a passion and hopefully together will make a difference in the future of our fisheries and the associated eco-systems within this region.
